It’s because he’s never forgotten where he’s from and what he stands for. The Munhall-Steel Valley grad who made his way to two Super Bowl rings with the Steelers by way of Robert Morris University and Eastern Michigan University before becoming a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions. After a highly-decorated 15-year pro career, he came home to establish “The Best of the Batch” Foundation. The nonprofit organization is devoted to improving the lives of children and families in distressed communities by building character, self-esteem and appreciation for education.:09—We want to take this opportunity to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the great Jimmy Cvetic. The retired police detective who was…“The Golden Glove!” Jimmy spent over 30 years helping to develop young fighters in the Western PA community as well as the fight game itself. Truly a great man that will truly be missed.:08—Still with us and still going strong. A Happy “Basketball” Birthday goes out to Jarrett “The Jewel” Durham, the Aliquippa legend who started at Duquesne University, who went on to play with the New York Nets in the ABA, celebrated his 70th.:07—Speaking of the Dukes…and I was. The Palumbo Center was rockin’ and rollin’ as they put on a show putting out the lights on George Washington University on Saturday, Feb. 16, 85–69.:06—Let’s dribble to Uptown a bit where the Pitt Panthers took another one on the chin. But as is their way, they went down fighting. A great crowd of 10,000-plus witnessed a really good game, even though Pitt fell to then-No. 22 Virginia Tech, 70–64. Most importantly, “The Pete” was packed. The Oakland Zoo, the noise level and the legends were all on hand. Superstars Billy Knight, Sam Clancy, Terry Knight and Kirk Bruce where all on hand. I know you heard it from me before, but trust me. In two years, Coach Jeff Capel will have this team in the thick of it. Just missing a few parts to the puzzle. A 3-point sharpshooter, a big man presence and some “nasty” and we’ve got a different party here!:05—Look, that bounce pass Steph Curry gave to Giannis Antetokounmpo was simply the best alley-oop you will ever, ever, ever see in your life. The great Pistol Pete Maravich just threw up a high-5!:04—If you were under a proverbial rock somewhere, Team LeBron barely got by Team Giannis, 178-164, and the seven-foot wonder Kevin Durant took home MVP honors with 31 points and 10-of-15 from the field.:03—Hey, tell the Greyhound bus driver to hold that seat next to Le’Veon Bell for Antonio Brown. Pedrerol claims that Barça are ahead of Real Madrid in race for Neymar

first_img The presenter said this on Neymar and his wish to return to LaLiga. “That’s his big dream. Everybody wants Neymar, including Madrid fans. They’ve forgiven him for getting a tattoo of his Champions League victory on his leg. The latest news is Barça are closer than ever to signing Ney. And with that, I have various questions. Do Barça need Neymar? Is it a good idea to buy him for €100m with Coutinho going the other way? Should Madrid get in a bidding war for Neymar? Do you need to pay him €38m per season? It is too risky of a deal? Do you want to know my opinion on Neymar? If I was the president of a club, I wouldn’t sign him. But, luckily, I’m not. Luckily, I’m a supporter and not a president of a club. And, as a supporter, I’d bring Neymar in tomorrow.” It feels like it goes from Real Madrid being the favourite to FC Barcelona leading the race with each passing hour. However, Pedrerol has claimed that Barça are in a strong position to land Neymar as PSG are willing to accept Coutinho in part exchange. The lawyer who deposited the €222m which took the Brazilian from Barça to PSG has been spotted in Barcelona today. Powered by Firework It is only preseason, and neither team took the games seriously, but the Los Angeles Lakers did beat the two-time defending champions Golden State Warriors twice in succession.Advertisement The final score in Portland was 119-105, and the fringe players played a starring role for the Lakers.Advertisement The Lakers were without numerous key players, as the likes of LeBron James and Rajon Rondo were rested. Brandon Ingram was nursing a quad injury, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has knee tendinitis and Josh Hart had a hamstring problem to deal with. Neither one of them will be out for long, and they will play in the season opener against Portland.Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and JaVale McGee played, and all of them notched up useful numbers. Michael Beasley and Lance Stephenson played minutes, but both of them were ejected in the second half.Advertisement  Svi Mykhailuk was the top scorer for the Lakers with 22 points. Aside from him, Johnathan Williams, Isaac Bonga, and Travis Wear all reached double figures and got some useful playing time, something which will be hard to come by in the regular season.Kevin Durant did not play for the Warriors, but their other stars did, albeit for limited minutes. Klay Thompson was their scoring leader with 21 points.Although it is preseason, the signs are promising for the Lakers. The Warriors are still huge favourites to clinch their third consecutive title, but something might be cooking up in Los Angeles. Advertisementlast_img read more
